Whack-a-mole: Troops are poor drug war answer

Syndicated columnist, Andres Oppenheimer, of the McClatchy newspaper chain (e.g.: Miami Herald, Kansas City Star) writes about the increasing calls by local U.S. officials to send troops into Mexico. He says, "I’m not kidding. At first, I thought it was a joke, or the kind of overreaction that is most often confined to the blogosphere." He advocates more Merida spending, to equip and train better Mexican police departments, but he sanely concludes that invading Mexico , "is crazy."
