U.S. Politics: New Congress won't lead to `fortress America'
Andres Oppenheimer is a columnist for the Miami Herald who focuses on Latin America. He is syndicated by the McClatchy chain, so his opinion appears in papers across the country. He is fairly progressive on the drug issue, having written columns about legalization of marijuana. Here he writes about the policy positions of the probable new Republican chairs of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, both of whom are from Florida.
New Congress won't lead to `fortress America' - Andres Oppenheimer - MiamiHerald.com: "The Republican landslide in Tuesday's mid-term elections is likely to lead to across-the-board budget cuts that will affect U.S. programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, and result in tougher congressional anti-immigration stands. That's not going to resonate well in most of the region." Nov. 4, 2010
