Immigration legislation: Congress takes up DREAM Act

It's down-to-the- wire time.

Congress takes up DREAM Act - latimes.com: "A cloture vote on the immigration measure affecting foreign-born youngsters is scheduled in the Senate, where GOP opposition is expected to lead to defeat. Debate is scheduled to begin in the House, but no formal vote has been set.

The bill, whose cloture vote is expected about 4 p.m. EST, is being heavily pushed by Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who was reelected with a large Latino vote last month. He pledged to bring the measure to a vote, though it will likely fail because of strong opposition from Republicans to a what they have called a mass amnesty for illegal immigrants." Dec. 8, 2010
