Immigration Politics: Florida Lawmakers set for hearing on immigration issue

Florida is climbing on the immigration crackdown bandwagon.

Lawmakers set for hearing on immigration issue - Florida AP - MiamiHerald.com: "TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Senate Judiciary Committee has invited speakers to give them information on the hotly debated immigration issue and what impact it has on Florida.

The committee scheduled three hours for Monday's hearing that will be chaired by freshman Sen. Anitere Flores, a Miami Republican.

New Gov. Rick Scott supports an Arizona-style law that cracks down on illegal immigrants. Attorney General Pam Bondi supports legislation that would deport illegal immigrants.

State Sen. Mike Bennett, R-Bradenton, has already filed one bill that would allow law enforcement officers, during a legal stop or arrest, to ask for a detainee's immigration documents if the officer suspects the individual is illegally in the country." Jan. 10, 2011
