Immigration Politics - Kentucky: House may kill Arizona-style immigration bill, Rep. Rick Rand says

That a way, Kentucky!

House may kill Arizona-style immigration bill, Rep. Rick Rand says | The Louisville Courier-Journal: "“This is not Arizona,” said Rep. Rick Rand, the Bedford Democrat who heads the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee. “We don't have the same immigration problems that Arizona has.”

Rand's comments were echoed later in the day by House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, who said majority Democrats in the House don't favor the Senate's approach on the issue.

“We think the better way to deal with illegal immigration is through Rep. Bob Damron's bill that the House has passed twice but that has failed to be heard in the Senate,” he said, referring to legislation that would crack down on employers with state contracts who hire undocumented immigrants, instead of the immigrants themselves.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), which is based in Louisville, has sent a letter to lawmakers saying it would not hold national meetings or conventions in Kentucky if the measure passed." Jan. 12, 2011
