9&10 News - Bill Sparks New Debate on Illegal Immigration in Michigan: "A new state bill designed to fight illegal immigration has sparked a new debate on immigration in Michigan.
The bill was introduced last week, and already there's been rallies and press conferences against the idea, including on in Traverse City on Tuesday.
Clergy and community leaders spoke out against the proposal saying it will break-up families and that it's rooted in fear.
'It's just out of touch with reality,' says Father Wayne Dziekan, Director of the Secretariat for Justice and Peace for the Diocese of Gaylord. 'It masks the nation's dire need for comprehensive immigration reform.'"
