Immigration Politics - Rhode Island: Brown poll asks attitudes about immigration

What would Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson have to say about this?

Brown poll asks attitudes about immigration | Turn to 10: "Rhode Islanders have mixed feelings about immigrants and immigration policy, according to a Brown University poll released Monday.

'People grappling with ways in which the states address this issue given that there's not been much traction in Washington in terms of a national immigration policy,' said Marion Orr, a political science professor at Brown.

Fifty-four percent of those surveyed support an Arizona-type law that calls for police to arrest illegal immigrants.

Fifty-five percent support local and state police checking citizens for documentation.

But the poll also found strong support for educating those who are here illegally.

'People tend to support the notion of providing educational and training opportunities for immigrant children here in the state,' Orr said."
