Immigration Politics: Imagine a U.S. with immigration reform

From Albany, New York

Imagine a U.S. with immigration reform - Times Union: "What would happen if comprehensive immigration reform -- the kind championed by Obama, which is little different from the kind championed by former President George W. Bush or the kind championed (at one time) by Sen. John McCain or the kind championed (at one time) by Sen. Orrin Hatch -- passed today? ...

The answer: just about nothing you would notice. The world would look pretty much the same. And whatever would happen, little of it would be bad.

Small businesses would be able to verify their hires. Farmers would have access to workers. Most of the illegal immigrants would still be here, just as they would be if there were no bill passed. They just wouldn't have to live in the shadows. They'd be paying taxes. They'd pay a fine, go to the back of the line, learn English, live the straight and narrow, fill jobs they're already filling, move toward becoming citizens."
