One is that granting more immigrants citizenship would be good for the U.S. economy.
The other is that America's 2,000-mile Southwest border has never been safer, so the timing for immigration reform is excellent.
Both points are sure to ignite discussion and dissent from some quarters.
Senior administration officials previewed the president's speech in a conference call with reporters from around the country. They said Obama will 'lead a constructive, civil debate on a broken immigration system.'
As for exactly how the president proposes to fix the immigration system, his administration withheld specifics. Its members said Obama would release 'a blueprint' for reform as part of his speech today at the Chamizal National Memorial."
