Collateral Damage: Mexico wants time limits for U.S. travel warnings

Mexico wants time limits for U.S. travel warnings: "Tourism Secretary Gloria Guevara asked the United States on Monday to set time limits for warnings issued to U.S. tourists on travel to Mexico.

'It is essential to standardize warnings,' said Guevara, complaining that there is no recognized framework or expiration date on the advisories.

Guevara’s comments came after the southwestern U.S. state of Texas warned Americans to avoid the Mexican border town of Nuevo Laredo over the July 4 Independence Day weekend amid fears that U.S. citizens will be targeted. ...

Guevara said Mexican tourism officials were in close contact with their U.S. counterparts, both at the state and federal level, and have constantly asked them to be very specific in their travel recommendations because they will otherwise 'only generate confusion.'"
