Washington Post: MEXICO CITY — Enrique Peña Nieto, a dynamic, crowd-pleasing politician and the new face of a political party once known for corruption, was elected president of Mexico on Sunday, according to exit polls by the country’s major media outlets.
Peña Nieto and his Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), which lost power in 2000 after more than 70 years as the “perfect dictatorship,” seemed headed for a remarkable act of political rehabilitation, convincing voters tired of drug violence and slow economic growth that the 45-year-old former governor could make Mexico more prosperous, more secure and more fair.
