Whack-a-mole Drug War: El Pasoans React To Perry's Border Flub

We doubt that this was a "slip of the tongue." More likely, it was part of Gov. Perry's strategy - like that of other right-wingers - to conflate the catastrophe happening on the Mexican side of the border with U.S. reality for political and financial gain.

El Pasoans React To Perry's Border Flub - News Story - KFOX El Paso: "Texas Governor Rick Perry misspoke during an interview with reporters, calling Juarez the most dangerous city in America.

'There have been 34,000 Mexicans killed directly attributable to the drug wars. It is a very dangerous place,' said Perry. He later added, 'Juarez is reported to be the most dangerous city in America.'

Representatives from the governor's office would only tell KFOX that Perry misspoke, and he corrected himself immediately.

But this isn't Perry's first slip of the tongue regarding the borderland.

'You've got bullets hitting the city hall in El Paso. You've got bombs exploding in El Paso. The border with Mexico is a war zone,' said Perry in a national interview with Fox News last August.

Perry meant to refer to a car bombing in Juarez."
