Drug War Bloodshed: Local officials reprimanded in Mexico slaying case

The Associated Press:"The Mexican goverment is chiding local authorities in a northern state for discussing the criminal record of an anti-crime activist who was shot to death. The Interior Department's thinly veiled reprimand Wednesday says public officials should not have taken actions that, in its words, "criminalized victims of violence by emphasizing their criminal records."

Less than 24 hours after the slaying of street vendor Nepomuceno Moreno, prosecutors in the border state of Sonora said he had a criminal record that appeared linked to his death. The 56-year-old Moreno had been one of the most visible faces of Mexico's anti-crime movement after his teenage son disappeared in July 2010."
